NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Christopher Newport University softball team will be busy this weekend, with doubleheaders scheduled for Saturday and Sunday at Captains Park. In addition, neutral site contests will also be taking place involving the programs traveling to CNU.
The Captains are 4-2 presently and riding a four-game winning streak after beating William Peace University twice on Wednesday.
Keith Parr's squad, ranked third in the country in the pre-season national coaches poll, will begin play at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, hosting Pfeiffer University. The Falcons, a member of the USA South Athletic Conference, head into play also with a 4-2 record so far this season.
Pfeiffer will then play Virginia Wesleyan University in a game set to start at 12:30 p.m. The Marlins are off to an 8-0 start, and were ranked fourth in the nation in the pre-season coaches poll.
Play will continue for the Captains at approximately 3:00 p.m. Saturday when they host the Sea Gulls of Salisbury University. The Gulls are 0-2 heading into Saturday afternoon's tilt. The action on Saturday will then come to a close with a game between Pfeiffer and Salisbury, scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
Sunday, the Captains will play another twin bill, taking on Pfeiffer in a game set for 3:00 p.m. followed by Christopher Newport vs. Salisbury at 5:30 p.m.
