NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Due to COVID protocols, the Christopher Newport women's lacrosse team's game at Randolph-Macon on Tuesday evening has been canceled, but the Captains will return to action on Wednesday with a newly scheduled non-conference test at Marymount beginning at 1 p.m.
In addition to Wednesday's game against Marymount, Christopher Newport has also announced the addition of a game at Moravian, which will take place on April 17 at noon.
As a result of Marymount's campus policy, fans of visiting teams will not be allowed to attend Wednesday's contest. However, the Saints will provide live stats and a video stream of the action at MarymountSaints.com. Direct links to both features can be found at the top of this release and on the schedule page.
Christopher Newport enters the midweek showdown at 2-2 on the season, including 1-1 on the road. Marymount is 1-0 after opening the year with a 21-2 win over Virginia Wesleyan on March 5.
Longtime league foes, the Captains and Saints were Capital Athletic Conference rivals before Marymount departed for the Atlantic East following the 2018 campaign. In 10 previous meetings between the two schools, Christopher Newport boasts an 8-2 record, including a 5-1 mark in Arlington.
In the most recent match-up, the Captains registered a 15-8 victory in 2018.
Gracie Sanders and
Sam Wettengel combined for three goals in that contest, and current assistant coach
Colleen Bourgal erupted for three points and a pair of takeaways while celebrating her Senior Day.
Following Wednesday's game, Christopher Newport will return home on Saturday when the squad hosts Shenandoah at 4 p.m.
