Logan Funk Claims Individual Title, Sets School Record in 6K While Starring for Christopher Newport at the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Championships

Final Results

SUNNYVALE, Calif. --
Piecing together an epic performance on Saturday morning, Logan Funk claimed the women's individual crown at the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships while establishing a new school record in the 6k as Christopher Newport placed second in both the men's and women's races during a historic showing at the Baylands Regional Park in Sunnyvale, California.

In the 6k, Funk torched the course while crossing the line in 21:44. With that performance, she became the first Captain in school history to break the 22-minute mark while shattering the previous program record of 22:04.6, which was set by Logan Harrington at the 2014 conference championship. For that showcase, Funk was named the Runner of the Meet and secured first-team All-League accolades.

With her victory, Funk also became the first Captain to claim the women's league title since Emmie Schmitt won the 2016 Capital Athletic Conference crown.

Incredibly, just moments after Funk finished the race, Kaitlyn Ardrey also eclipsed the previous school record after clocking in at 21:57.3. That placed her second in the field and earned her a spot on the first-team All-League squad as well.

Aided by the record-setting performances, the women's team eventually finished with 43 points, which slotted the squad just behind UC Santa Cruz, who claimed the championship with a score of 28. Meanwhile, the men also finished second behind the Banana Slugs after compiling 40 points. UC Santa Cruz wrapped up the meet with 26.

While Funk and Ardrey stole the show, three other women also topped the 24-minute mark and secured All-Conference accolades. Madi Rawlings moved to 19th in program history in the 6k after finishing in 23:07.3. That placed her 11th in the field. Later, Mae Savoie clocked in at 23:15.4, which moved her to 24th on the all-time charts and placed her 13th at the meet.

Rounding out the top-five, Maggie Ralston just missed her PR with a time of 23:37.4. With that time, the senior star finished 16th in the field and joined Rawlings and Savoie on the second-team All-Conference squad.

The men were equally impressive while rewriting the program records in the 8k. Ryan Henderson led the squad and placed second overall with a time of 25:02.7. That vaulted him to seventh on the program's all-time performance list. Two other Captains also finished in the top-10 as Clark Edwards came in seventh (25:26.9) and Eric Speeney was eighth (25:27.5). Those clockings rank 18th and 19th in school history.

Fittingly, all three history-makers earned first-team All-Conference nods for their work.

Capping off the team's top-five, Daniel Ferrante was 11th in 25:46.0, while Nick Tolarchyk established a new PR in 25:55.9. That placed him 12th in the field and earned him a spot on the second-team All-League squad alongside Ferrante.

Saving their best work for the league meet, 17 total Captains registered PRs during the competition as 10 women ran 6k bests, while seven men set new personal standards in the 8k.

With the conference meet in the books, Christopher Newport will now set its sights on regional glory. The Captains will take part in the NCAA South Regional Championships on November 13 in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
