NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Christopher Newport men's soccer team will play it's final regular season game of the season on Wednesday evening as the Captains welcome Salisbury University for Senior Night at 5:00 p.m.
Prior to kickoff, head coach
Justin Chezem will honor the senior class of 2021 as they prepare to play in their final home regular season game. This year, 12 Captains will be suiting up at home for the last time.
For fans unable to attend the ceremony or the game in person, a live video webcast will be available at CNUsports.com/watch. Live stats will also be presented at kickoff, tentatively scheduled for 5:00 pm at Captains Field.
Christopher Newport will be looking to bounce back after a 2-1 defeat at Mary Washington on Saturday halted a modest four-match winning streak. The Captains are now 7-4-2 overall and will be taking on a Salisbury squad that is 6-6-1 on the year. With a 2-1 win over the Sea Gulls earlier this year, the Captains closed the gap in the tight all-time series, trailing just 16-19-5.
Senior
Will Collins leads the Captains attack with multiple points in four of the Captains' last five games. He has a team-leading 11 points four goals and three assists while fellow senior
Cory Hogge ranks second on the team with eight points scored. Hogge has chipped in three goals and a pair of helpers so far this season.
Defensively, seniors
Davis Pillow and
Daniel Hulett have led the way in the middle of the back line. The fifth-year stars have helped hold opponents to just 8.1 shots per game and only 14 goals allowed in 13 games played this season.
Salisbury counters with a 4-2-1 record over their last seven games including a 3-1 victory over Stockton in their last action. Rookies Ethan Dolezal (11 pts) and Brady Young (10 pts) lead the Sea Gulls attack with eight goals and five assists combined. The youthful roster also includes four underclassmen goalkeepers with three of whom have started multiple games this season.
Following the Wednesday night finale, the Captains will prepare for the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Tournament next weekend at the University of Mary Washington. Seedings will be announced on Monday, November 1 with six teams traveling to Fredericksburg, Va. from November 4-6 to crown the conference champion.
