MANASSAS, Va. -- Taking on the fifth-ranked team in the country, the Christopher Newport men's soccer team will face off against Johns Hopkins University (9-0-2) at 4:00 pm on Wednesday afternoon. The two teams will play on a neutral field at the Howison Homestead Soccer Complex in Northern Virginia.

The game will be the seventh matchup in the all-time series with Johns Hopkins owning a slight 4-2-0 advantage. The last time the two teams faced off was on November 13, 2010 when the Blue Jays won, 2-1, in double overtime during the NCAA Tournament. The only time the two teams have faced off in a neutral site came in 1987 when CNU won, 4-2, in Elizabethtown, Pa. 

Christopher Newport is coming off a 4-2 win over St. Mary's (Md.) on Saturday night that saw Owen Burnett lead the offense with an assist and the game-winning goal. Burnett now ranks tied for second on the team with six points alongside Cory Hogge (3g) and Will Collins (2g, 2a) as the trio trail Chris Schram for the team lead with seven points (3g, 1a). 

The Captains will take on a Johns Hopkins squad riding a seven-match winning streak. Junior forward Axel Whamond was named the Conference Player of the Week after scoring the game-winning goal against Washington College in the Blue Jays' last matchup. Whamond is tied for second on the team in scoring with seven points on two goals and three assists. The team's leading scorer is Aidan Dunphy, notching 12 points on five goals and two helpers this year. The Hopkins defense has allowed just six goals in 11 games this season for a 0.52 goals against average. 

Following the mid-week non-conference showdown, the Captains will stay on the road this weekend as the team travels to Salisbury University on October 16 for a 2:00 pm kickoff.
