Christopher Newport Volleyball Hauls in USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- For the second consecutive season, the Christopher Newport University volleyball program was honored among a record-breaking number of teams to earn the United States Marine Corps (USMC) and American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for the 2019-20 season.

One of 1,313 teams to earn the annual award that honors high school, all three NCAA women's divisions, beach volleyball, and men's volleyball, the Captains surpassed the year-long grade-point average requirement of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale for the second time. The award was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year.

The Captains were one of a record 231 NCAA Division III teams to be named to the list of honorees which is a number that stands at over 53% of the NCAA Division III membership.

Leading the way for Christopher Newport academically this year was a group of 13 student-athletes recognized by the Capital Athletic Conference as All-Academic team selections. Three players were honored as four-time CAC All-Academic picks in Rachel Blitt, Riley Garrison, and Hope Webb.
