NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Christopher Newport's softball team has been strengthened over the last four seasons by the solid play of second baseman
Grace Wild, who started all 149 games of her outstanding career. Wild, from Potomac Falls, Va., recently was honored for her amazing work in the classroom as she was named to the 2020 Academic All-District Softball Team by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors).
Wild, who recently received a bachelor of science degree in neuroscience from Christopher Newport, was selected first team in District 5 with a 3.87 GPA. Her career with the Captains on the field was also remarkable, and included all-conference, all-state, and all-region accolades as she anchored Christopher Newport's infield.Â
After graduating from Potomac Falls High School, she immediately stepped into Head Coach
Keith Parr's lineup as a freshman and remained there for four incredible years. Wild registered a career batting average of .364 with 164 base hits and 148 runs scored in her 149-game career. Wild's hit total includes 47 doubles, the most ever in program history by a player. She also knocked in 106 runs and stole 41 bases. As a junior in 2019, Wild posted a season batting average of .403.
"Grace has been the consummate teammate and leader both on the field and in the classroom," Parr said. "She also found time for community engagement during her years at CNU. She has been the complete student-athlete...consistent from day one with a strong work ethic to maintain an extremely high GPA and an outstanding level of play for our team."Â
Wild will now continue her academic career in graduate school after helping the Captains win 120 games over the last four seasons.
