TUCSON, AZ - Both scheduled games Sunday for Christopher Newport's second-ranked softball squad were canceled due to the threat of bad weather.
Keith Parr's team posted a 2-1 record in the three-day National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Leadoff Classic at Lincoln Park Field.
The Captains return from the spring break journey with a 12-1 record. Christopher Newport defeated Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Friday, and then handed top-ranked and undefeated Texas Lutheran its first loss of the season on Saturday. The Captains suffered their first defeat of 2020 on Saturday at the hands of fifth-ranked Illinois Wesleyan. Friday's scheduled game with 19th-ranked Mary Hardin-Baylor and Sunday games against the College of Saint Benedict and Berry College were wiped out.
Christopher Newport will host Randolph-Macon next Sunday, March 15, at Captains Park. The doubleheader will begin at 1:30 p.m. and will be the first home games of the season for the Captains.
