MEDFORD, Mass. -- Several distance runners pieced together historic efforts on Saturday afternoon while representing the Christopher Newport track & field teams during the Tufts National Qualifying Meet at the Gantcher Center.
Â
During their respective races,
Monica Lannen,
Kaitlyn Ardrey, and
Jason Putnam all climbed up Christopher Newport's all-time performance lists with starring efforts on Saturday.
Â
"We were really pleased with how Monica, Jason, and Kaitlyn ran to wrap up the meet for us," said head coach
Tyler Wingard. "They were in really fast fields and did a good job taking advantage of that. We had a few people experiencing a Final Qualifier for the first time. These meets have a really different feel in a lot of ways, so it was good to get them the experience that will pay off down the road."
Â
Headlining the history-makers, Ardrey jumped to third on the program's all-time performance list in the women's 3000. The sophomore speedster crossed the line in 10:31.40, which sliced 15 seconds off her PR and marked the fastest time by a Captain since 2016.
Â
Equally impressive in the men's 3000, Putnam threw down a time of 8:42.23. That took nearly a second off his previous best and vaulted him past current assistant coach
Daniel Read for seventh on the program's all-time performance list.
Â
Rounding out the legendary runners, Lannen completed the women's mile in 5:08.16. That marked the fifth-fastest time in school history and the best effort since 2017.
Â
Among other distance runners on Saturday,
Cooper Albright completed the 800 in 1:59.80, while
Adam Wosahla clocked in at 2:04.39.
Sam Koltisko also took part in the 5000 and finished the race in 15:27.99, which placed him third in the field.
Â
In other events on Saturday, freshman
CJ Reeders was the runner-up in the men's triple jump (13.49 meters), and fellow first-year star
Alyssa Roach was second in the women's 60-hurdles (9.23).
