NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Capital Athletic Conference announced its men's basketball post-season honors on Tuesday, as the Captains continue to prepare for the conference semifinal showdown Wednesday night at the Freeman Center vs. St. Mary's (Md.). Four members of the Christopher Newport program were recognized by the league as junior
Jason Aigner and senior
Dalon McHugh II were selected first team All-Conference, and senior
Luther Gibbs was named second team. In addition, Head Coach
John Krikorian was selected Coach of the Year for a record fifth straight season.
Aigner, a product of Fairfax, recently went over the 1,000-point mark for his career, becoming the 33rd Captain to reach the plateau. He has averaged a team-high 13.2 points per game this season and has knocked down 83 three-point field goals. It's the second All-Conference nod for Aigner, who was a second team member last season.
McHugh, from Virginia Beach, has recorded nine double-doubles this season for the Captains, and is averaging 12.7 points and a team-best 7.9 rebounds per contest. McHugh is second in the CAC in rebounds per game and had a span of four straight double-doubles earlier this season.
Gibbs,from Culpepper, is averaging 7.8 points and 4.2 rebounds per contest. He is second in the CAC in conference field goal percentage (55.2 percent) and third in conference games in assists and blocks.Â
Krikorian, in his tenth season leading the Captains, has compiled a record of 230-58 (.799) since taking over the program. He has guided the Captains to two Final Fours in the last four seasons and four straight NCAA appearances. It's his fifth-straight Jeff Gamber Coaching Staff of the Year honor.

The Captains completed the regular season with a 20-5 overall record and a 9-1 mark in the CAC. Â This marks the fifth straight season the Captains have won or tied for the CAC regular-season title, and the Captains have won three of the last four CAC Tournament titles. Last Wednesday's regular-season ending victory over Southern Virginia pushed the Captains to the 20-win plateau for the sixth straight season, and it's the eighth 20-win campaign in ten years under Krikorian. It also marks the 20th 20-win season in the 53-year history of the program.Â
Christopher Newport, the top seed, will open play in the CAC Tournament Wednesday night at the Freeman Center, hosting fifth-seeded St. Mary's (Md.). Tipoff time is set for 6:00 p.m. The Captains are 12-1 at home this season, and defeated the Seahawks in the regular season by scores of 93-58 at the Freeman Center and 93-63 in St. Mary's City this season. The Seahawks knocked off fourth-seeded Salisbury on Saturday to advance to the semifinals. SMC is now 9-17 on the season.
