Schedule Changes Announced for No. 4 Christopher Newport Women's Soccer Tournament This Weekend

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Due to the anticipated impact of Hurricane Dorian, head coach Dan Weiler and the Christopher Newport University Department of Athletics have announced changes to the schedule for women's soccer, set to host the 2019 Captains Invite on campus this weekend. The tournament will be bumped one day, with games no longer set for Friday evening and the opening contest scheduled for 5:00 pm on Saturday afternoon.

The updated Captains Invite schedule is as follows:

-- Saturday, September 7 --
Location: Jennings Family Stadium
Game 1: Emory University (1-0-0) at No. 4 Christopher Newport University (3-0-0) at 5:00 pm
Game 2: Virginia Wesleyan University (2-1-0) vs. Dickinson College (2-0-0) at 7:00 pm

-- Sunday, September 8 --
Location: Captains Field
Game 3: Emory vs. Virginia Wesleyan -- cancelled
Game 4: Dickinson at No. 4 Christopher Newport at 5:00 pm

Fans should note both the game time and location changes to the weekend's schedule of events. Saturday's contests will be held at newly finished Jennings Stadium and Sunday's matches will be played on the Captains Field, the home of Christopher Newport soccer.

Christopher Newport will be taking the field following a 3-0-0 start to the season with three victories across the water on the campus of Virginia Wesleyan. The Captains first dispatched of Westfield State and Luther by 4-0 final scores before capturing a 1-0 double overtime win against the Marlins on Tuesday night.

Emory enters Saturday's bout with the nationally-ranked Captains having played just one game this season, earning a 1-0 win over Sewanee in overtime. The Captains and Eagles have played just twice before in program history, with Christopher Newport owning a 1-0-1 advantage in the series. Dickinson enters the weekend with a 2-0-0 start to the season and will take on the Captains for just the second time after Christopher Newport picked up a win in the series opener last year. Rounding out the tournament field are the Marlins who are 2-1-0 this season.
