NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Christopher Newport football squad is headed north for a spring trip to Canada and an exhibition game on Saturday. The squad consisting of 47 student-athletes will play in St. Catherines, Ontario, against the Hamilton Hurricanes club team. Kickoff time is set for 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Kiwanis Field.
"This is a great opportunity for our team to bond and compete against a new opponent," Head Coach
Art Link said. "We've got a terrific group of student-athletes who will be returning to our program, and this journey will allow us to hold some practices and continue to improve our program."Â
The Captains, who were 7-2 last fall, departed Thursday morning and will begin the weekend trip in Pittsburgh, where they will tour the training headquarters of the Pittsburgh Steelers as well as the University of Pittsburgh football facilities.
Following a stop after crossing into Canada to view Niagara Falls, the Captains will continue to Hamilton, Ontario, to prepare for the spring exhibition matchup on Saturday.Â
