No. 1 CNU Softball Hosts Saturday and Sunday Doubleheaders at Captains Park

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Christopher Newport has a busy weekend of softball scheduled at Captains Park. Doubleheaders will begin at 1:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday as the top-ranked Captains host Frostburg State and Meredith. 

Keith Parr's team is 19-3 overall and 2-0 in the Capital Athletic Conference. CNU is coming off a split on Wednesday at Randolph-Macon. The Captains fell in the opener, 6-0, before bouncing back for an 8-4 victory in the nightcap.

Christopher Newport leads the country in home runs per game (1.55) and the Captains have smacked 35 in just 22 games played. Freshman Kaitlyn Hasty tops the squad with ten long balls this season, and is third in the nation in home runs. In the pitching circle, junior Aubrey Bates has recorded a 9-1 record so far this season, and now has a 36-8 career mark. Bates has been selected the CAC's Pitcher of the Week three times already.

Frostburg State enters Saturday's CAC twin bill with a record of 13-9 and the Bobcats are also 2-0 in league play. FSU swept a pair at home on Wednesday over Southern Virginia.

Sunday's opponent, Meredith College, is 7-19 currently and will play a doubleheader vs. Methodist on Saturday before heading to Newport News. The Captains have already swept a doubleheader from the Avenging Angels back on March 7th in Raleigh by scores of 13-4 and 3-0.
