Fifth-Ranked Captains Travel to Salisbury and Mary Washington to Conclude Regular Season

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Christopher Newport softball squad concludes the regular season this weekend, as the Captains hit the road for back-to-back doubleheaders. Keith Parr's team, ranked fifth in the country this week, plays at Salisbury in Salisbury, Md., on Friday with the action set to start at 1:30 p.m. CNU will then finish off the regular season on Saturday with a pair at Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, with start time set for 1:00 p.m.

The Captains have a record of 26-4 overall and 7-1 in the Capital Athletic Conference. The four games remaining will in large part determine the seeding for the upcoming CAC Tournament beginning next Friday, April 26th. The Captains currently lead the league with their 7-1 mark, with Mary Washington second at 8-2 and Salisbury third at 4-2 in the CAC.

Salisbury enters Friday's games with an overall mark of 20-9 to go with the Sea Gulls' 4-2 conference record. CNU and Salisbury will be meeting for the 80th and 81st times all-time, with the Captains leading the series, 40-37, with two ties. Salisbury will then host Southern Virginia on Saturday, and finish the CAC schedule with a Monday twin bill at Frostburg State.

Mary Washington is 18-15 overall as well as 8-2 in the CAC heading into Saturday's games with the Captains. CNU leads the all-time series with UMW, 49-8, in 57 previous meetings.

The bracket for the 2019 CAC Tournament will be finalized Monday once all games are completed. The tourney this year will be played over two weekends, with action at the top two seeds April 26th & 27th, followed by the championship series at the higher remaining seed on May 3rd and 4th.

The Captains are coming off a sweep on Tuesday over Penn State Harrisburg at Captains Park, 10-2 and 11-0. CNU concluded its home schedule with an 18-2 record. Christopher Newport has hit 46 home runs this season, just four shy of a single season program record.
