Johanna Ranta-aho saw her impressive run at the 2018 ITA Southeast Regional Championship come to an end on Monday morning, falling in the semifinal round to 5th-seeded Anjali Kashyap from Johns Hopkins University, 6-1, 6-3.
The Captains' third-year women's tennis star made her second career appearance in the semifinal round of the ITA Regionals, after becoming the first player in program history to do so as a freshman. After falling to Kashyap for the second consecutive year in the ITA Regionals, Ranta-aho now boasts a career record of 11-3 in the fall tournament.
This year, the Helsinki, Finland native soared into the semifinal round with three straight set victories and a thrilling three-set bout in the quarterfinals late Sunday evening. She earned wins over Rachel Neeleman (Southern Virginia), Julia Gokhberg (Swarthmore), No. 16 Alex Iordache (Carnegie Mellon), and No. 9 Jamie Vizelman (Carnegie Mellon).
She now owns a 43-12 all-time singles record at CNU. She is one win shy of joining the top ten all-time in singles wins at CNU at the start of her junior campaign and currently ranks fifth all-time in winning percentage with a .781 mark.
