Captains Sweep Penn State Harrisburg & York (Pa.) in CAC Action, 9-0, on Sunday

YORK, Pa. -- The nationally-ranked CNU men's tennis team traveled to south central Pennsylvania for a pair of Capital Athletic Conference matchups on Sunday, winning 9-0 against Penn State Harrisburg and then again, 9-0, against York (Pa.). CNU improved to 10-8 overall and 4-1 in league play after the conference wins.

The Captains had little trouble in either match, and cruised to a shutout win over the Lions in the morning before blanking the York Spartans in the evening. First up, CNU dropped Penn State Harrisburg to 3-10, 0-3 by surrendering only five games in singles play during the match.

Dominic Lacombe led the way with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles, dropping Pranoy Banka, and rookies James Baron and Bryce Coleman each posted shutout wins, 6-0, 6-0. Baron over Jared Gluck at No. 4 and Coleman against Noah Nacionales at No. 6.

Other CNU players to pick up singles wins against the Lions were senior Dillon Sykes (6-0, 6-1) against Eric Belles at No. 2, Mitch Brody (6-1, 6-0) against Ryan McCurdy at No. 3, and William Trang against Isaac George (6-1, 6-1) at No. 5.

CNU also swept doubles play, led by Trang and Brody at No. 2, winning 8-1 over George and Belles. Lacombe and Bareon won, 8-2, and No. 1, and Sykes paired with Coleman for an 8-3 win at No. 3.

In the later matchup, CNU fielded a more familiar lineup with David Reed and Justin Cerny winning 8-1 at No. 1 doubles to pick up their 10th win in pairs play this season. The regionally-ranked pairing is now 9-6 at No. 1. Andy Mason paired with Trang for an 8-2 win at No. 2 and Baron with Nicholas Ruzicka for an 8-0 win at No. 3.

In singles play, Reed, Cerny, and Mason all picked up wins on the top three lines, while Ruzicka, Brody, and Baron won in straight sets to help CNU secure the shutout win.

The Captains will return to action on Saturday, April 14 for the final home regular season match of the season when CNU hosts Salisbury University at 1:00 pm.
