NEWPORT NEWS, Va. --
The Christopher Newport women's lacrosse team will open up a three-game homestand on Saturday at 4 p.m. when CNU hosts Meredith in a non-conference battle at Captains Turf Field.

Entering the weekend, Christopher Newport currently sits at 2-3 on the season, including 0-2 at home. Meanwhile, Meredith is 5-2 overall and 4-1 on the road.

For those fans unable to attend Saturday's game, live stats and a video stream of the action will be available at CNUsports.com/live. Direct links to both features can be found at the top of this release and on the CNU schedule page.

The Captains are coming off back-to-back setbacks against nationally-ranked opponents, including an 11-4 loss at No. 10 Washington & Lee on Wednesday. Against the Generals, Colleen Bourgal posted two points, while Julia Golden contributed a strike and four ground balls. Tess D'Arcy and Jordan Hayes also found the back of the net, while Kaitlyn Ready contributed her third consecutive double-digit save effort.

So far this season, Ready leads the CAC with 56 saves, while her .519 save percentage is the second-best mark in the conference. Also ranked among the league-leaders, Sarah Culver is tied for second with 14 goals, and Carly Wilson sits third with nine assists. Ready and D'Arcy also stand among the top-10 in ground balls.

On the other side, Meredith is also coming off a pair of nationally-ranked setbacks, including a 13-10 loss at No. 11 Catholic on Thursday. After falling behind by three in the first half against the Cardinals, the Avenging Angels played even in the second stanza but could not quite overcome the early deficit. Holly Hite and Julie Capretti both contributed four points for Meredith. Hite also collected a game-high eight draw controls.

After securing its fourth straight NCAA Tournament berth last year, Meredith was chosen as the preseason favorites in the USA South once again in 2018. Carlee Joseph currently leads the Avenging Angels and ranks fifth in the NCAA with 24 goals, while Hite is just behind her with 22 strikes. Lethal on the offensive end, Meredith is averaging 16.43 goals-per-game. Meanwhile, on the defensive side, Sydney Hardee has a 5.87 goals-against-average and a .425 save percentage. Cameron Ruffin also leads the back line with 14 caused turnovers and 17 ground balls.

Meredith and CNU have only met once before with the Captains registering a 21-3 victory in Newport News in 2013. Former conference foes, the Captains and Avenging Angels have combined to win the last 12 USA South Championships. Christopher Newport won eight straight before leaving the league after the 2013 campaign. Meredith has won every title since.

Following this weekend's action, CNU will return to play on March 13 for a 4 p.m. contest at home against Washington (Md.).
