NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The eighth-ranked Captains of Christopher Newport host the Tigers of DePauw University Wednesday afternoon at Captains Park. The non-conference softball doubleheader is scheduled to get underway at 3:00 p.m.
CNU, riding a four-game winning streak, is 13-3 on the season and coming off a doubleheader sweep over Meredith College last Saturday at Captains Park. Senior centerfielder
Leah Andrews was four-for-four in the twin bill and posted a home run and two doubles. She also recorded a sacrifice fly, was hit by a pitch, and stole a base and was not retired in seven at bats. For her efforts, the Newport News native was named the Player of the Week this week in the Capital Athletic Conference.
DePauw, located in Greencastle, Indiana, is 4-12 on the year and in the midst of a nine-game losing skid. The Tigers dropped two games at top-ranked Virginia Wesleyan on Tuesday in Virginia Beach and also lost twice at Salisbury on Sunday to start their road trip through the area. The Captains and Tigers have met five times in the past, and CNU holds a 3-2 edge in the all-time series. The games will be streamed live on Wednesday at CNUsports.com/live with video and live stats available.
The doubleheader will mark the final tune-up for the Captains before heading into Capital Athletic Conference play. CNU will open its league schedule on Saturday at home vs. Wesley. The doubleheader will begin at 2:00 p.m. Head Coach
Keith Parr announced on Tuesday that the Captains will make up their scheduled non-conference doubleheader at William Peace in Raleigh. CNU will travel to William Peace next Thursday, April 5th, for a doubleheader beginning at 2:30.
