NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- CNU surrendered no more than four games in any one match on Saturday morning, as the 36th-ranked men's tennis team sailed to a 9-0 win over Centre College. The shutout improved Christopher Newport to 5-6 on the season while the Colonels fell to 3-6 overall.

Five players finished the day with 2-0 performances against Centre College. The other two players to factor into the action were rookies Mitch Brody, who won at No. 6 singles, and James Baron, who paired with Andy Mason for a shutout win at No. 2 doubles.

Baron and Mason combined for an 8-0 win over Ben Hadlock and Max Middleton on the second line of doubles. The quick win opened play as CNU would go on to sweep doubles play with a pair of 8-3 wins at No. 1 and 3. Justin Cerny and David Reed downed Matthew Ko and Josh Joiner on the top line, and Dominic Lacombe and Nicholas Ruzicka defeated Beau Brown and Adam Slone at No. 3.

In singles play, Brody earned his first career start in singles when he stepped in on the No. 6 line. He made quick work of his opponent, Beau Brown, downing the Colonel while losing just a single game (6-0, 6-1).
