NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - It's been an 11-day break for the Captains of Christopher Newport since they last saw action on the softball field. The Captains had a doubleheader on Sunday at Virginia Wesleyan postponed and re-scheduled for April 11th, and then moved their twin bill with Emory back a day. But Thursday,
Keith Parr's squad will be back in action at Captains Park hosting the Eagles of Emory University in a non-conference twin bill. The first pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
CNU is again ranked sixth in the nation this week in the weekly poll from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). It's the second straight week CNU has been in the sixth slot. Emory, meanwhile, is tied for 23rd in the country in the national poll this week.
The schools met last year for four games in Atlanta, and the Captains took three of the four over two days of action. The Captains recorded victories by scores of 7-5 and 8-5 on the opening day, March 4th, and then split a pair on March 5th with the Eagles, winning by a 2-1 margin and losing an 8-3 verdict. The schools have played nine games all-time, and Emory holds a 5-4 lead in the series.
The Captains have won five straight games entering Thursday's doubleheader. CNU lost to Babson on March 2nd to open play in the NFCA's Leadoff Classic in Tucson, Arizona, and then reeled off five wins over three days of play. CNU is now 8-2 on the season, and the Captains are 3-1 at Captains Park so far.
Thursday's action at Captains Park will be available live online at CNUsports.com with live stats and video available for both games.
