NEWPORT NEWS, Va. --
The 23rd-ranked Christopher Newport volleyball team will wrap up Capital Athletic Conference action on Wednesday at 7 p.m. when the Captains host Southern Virginia at the Freeman Center.

Entering the contest, CNU sits at 19-4 overall, including 5-1 in league action. Southern Virginia is 14-8 with a 4-2 mark against conference foes.

For those fans unable to attend the game, live stats will be available at CNUsports.com. The Captains will also provide a video stream of the action with Austin Urch and Brooke Stanley on the call. Direct links to both features can be found at the top of this release and on the CNU schedule page.

Although the Captains saw their 13-match winning streak come to an end last week at Mary Washington, CNU rebounded with a 3-0 triumph against Salisbury. During that match, Katie Piper unloaded 11 kills while hitting at a .476 clip. Abby Oren and Riley Garrison also added eight kills apiece, while Kellyn DeChirico had a hand in four of the team's seven blocks.

As a team, Christopher Newport currently leads the Capital Athletic Conference with a .225 hitting percentage. The squad's 12.13 kills-per-set average also stands first in the league, while the Captains rank second in the CAC and 11th in the NCAA with a 2.19 blocks-per-set mark. On an individual level, Garrison is 15th in the NCAA in block-per-set (1.16) and 18th in total rejections (95).

On the other side, Southern Virginia has won three of its last four matches, including sweeps against Frostburg State and Hood. The Knights come into Wednesday ranked second in the CAC with a 16.83 digs-per-set average. Mykynli Knight has been the squad's top back-row performer, averaging 5.35 digs per frame. That ranks 56th in the NCAA. Meanwhile, LaRee Crockett also sits 60th in the NCAA with a 9.61 assists-per-set mark.

In 16 previous meetings between the two programs, CNU holds a 14-2 edge in the series. Last year, Christopher Newport registered a 3-1 victory at the Freeman Center. During that contest, Piper unloaded 14 kills for the Captains, while Josie Lucernoni plucked 21 digs and hammered three aces.
