CNU Football Travels to New Jersey for Saturday Matinee at Montclair State

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Christopher Newport will look to bounce back from a tough loss last Saturday as the Captains hit the road for a conference tilt at Montclair State University. Saturday's kickoff time is set for 1:00 p.m. at Sprague Field in Montclair, New Jersey.

Art Link's squad suffered its first loss of the season in a 33-30 setback to Frostburg State at POMOCO Stadium last week. The battle featured eight turnovers and five lead changes, but the Bobcats emerged with the victory sending CNU to a 2-1 overall mark and a 1-1 record in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Now the Captains will look to rebound against a Montclair State squad that is 1-1 so far, and 1-0 in league action.

Saturday's matchup will be the first home game of the season for the Red Hawks, who have lost at Salve Regina (26-20) and won at Southern Virginia (24-0). Montclair State was 4-6 a year ago, and the Captains needed a late score to send the game to overtime at POMOCO Stadium before winning 28-21. The schools have split their first two meetings since the Captains joined the NJAC in 2015.

Christopher Newport's defense has forced a dozen turnovers in its first three games of the season, second-best in the country in Division III. CNU has a plus-seven turnover ratio, eighth-best in the nation this week.

The game will feature the newest Head Coach in the NJAC, Art Link of the Captains in his first season, against the dean of conference coaches, Rick Giancola, who is in his 35th season leading the Red Hawks. This will be the ninth game for CNU played in New Jersey, and the Captains are 2-6 all-time in the Garden State.

The game will be broadcast live on the Christopher Newport/Pepsi Radio Network (Xtra 99.1 FM) and online at CNUsports.com/live. The pre-game show will begin at 12:30 p.m.
