BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- The 18th-ranked Christopher Newport field hockey team will kick off a three-game road swing this weekend when the Captains head to Bridgewater for a noon battle on Saturday at the Jopson Athletic Complex before traveling to Baltimore for a 10 a.m. neutral-site showdown with Rhodes on Sunday at Johns Hopkins' Homewood Field.
                          
Entering the weekend, CNU sits at 4-1 on the season, including 2-0 away from Newport News. On the other side of the field, Bridgewater is 1-4 this season, while Rhodes is currently 2-1 and will battle Johns Hopkins on Friday at 5 p.m.

The Captains are looking to bounce back after suffering their first setback of the season with a 2-1 loss against Catholic on Wednesday evening. Despite the setback, Christopher Newport ranks second in the CAC with a 0.60 goals-against-average this year, including three shutouts. 
Stephanie McKinney has paced the defense with an .870 save percentage, including seven stops in each of her last two appearances.
 
Headlining the attack, 
Madison Doss leads the league with six goals, while 
Courtney Fiest is tied with a conference-high three assists. The first-year standout became the first freshman in program history to register at least one point in each of her first four collegiate contests. Meanwhile, fellow freshman 
Lily Bryngelson ranks second on the team with eight points, while 
Rachael Allshouse, 
Rachel Cooke, and 
Jackie Kotoriy all have multiple goals as well.
 
Facing the Captains on Saturday, Bridgewater dropped a 1-0 decision against McDaniel after registering its first win of the year with a 4-1 triumph at St. Mary's (Md.) on September 9. Emily Matisons leads the Eagles with five points, including a pair of goals, while Jacqueline DiFulvio has three assists. Between the pipes, Ali Bishop has compiled a .640 save percentage and a 1.94 goals-against-average.
 
Rhodes currently sits at 2-1, including a 5-0 victory over DePauw on September 10. Hailey Mules has gotten off to an outstanding start this season with five goals, including a hat-trick in the opener against Wesley. Mackenzie Busby also has three strikes, while Lydia Slyter has a team-high three assists. On the defensive side, Laura Eckelkamp has played every minute for the Lynx and sports an .813 save percentage and a 1.00 goals-against-average.
 
Bridgewater and CNU have battled 15 times with the Captains holding a 13-2 edge in the all-time series. However, the Eagles won last year's meeting, 1-0, in Newport News. Meanwhile, Rhodes and CNU have met seven times with the Captains winning all seven meetings, including a 3-1 triumph during a neutral-site tilt in Charlottesville last year.
 
Following this weekend's action, Christopher Newport will remain on the road for a non-conference bout against Randolph-Macon on September 21 at 7:30 p.m.
