David Reed moved up a slot in the Atlantic South Regional Rankings on Thursday, taking over the No. 2 spot in the most recent poll announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. The Captains are now ranked No. 35 in the Oracle/ITA Division III National Rankings, while being pegged as No. 9 in the Atlantic South Region.
David Reed also maintained his position at No. 8 in the singles rankings in the Atlantic South, rounding out the Christopher Newport representation in the April 13th release. Reed has played 14 matches at No. 1 singles this spring, running his overall win-loss record to 7-7 against the opponents' top player. He is 3-2 against nationally-ranked opponents this season, including a straight set win over Mary Washington's Brandon Griffin.
In doubles play, Reed and Cerny are 10-5 on the top line and are currently riding a seven-match winning streak. The third-year players are ranked only behind Emory's Scott Rubinstein and James Spaulding in the region, who were also ranked 18th in the country at the beginning of the year. The CNU duo is 12-6 overall with one win over a nationally-ranked tandem this season.
As a team, the Captains are now 12-8 overall this season and locked up the No. 2 seed in the CAC Tournament for the second straight season. CNU will close out the regular season on Saturday on the road, taking on No. 21 Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md. The Blue Jays are ranked No.5 in the Atlantic South and feature two ranked individuals, Mike Buxbaum at No. 10 and Jeremy Dubin at No. 12, in the region. The pair also ranks No. 6 in the region in doubles play.
