NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - It's all Capital Athletic Conference play the rest of the way for the Christopher Newport University softball squad. The Captains are 17-7 overall and 2-0 so far in the CAC, with six league doubleheaders remaining to complete the regular season schedule.
Keith Parr's squad will host the two conference Pennsylvania schools this weekend, York and Penn State-Harrisburg. for doubleheaders beginning at 1:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Captains Park.
Christopher Newport is coming off a sweep of Richard Bland College on Tuesday at Captains Park. CNU won the opener in five innings, 14-1, and then took the nightcap in six innings, 10-2. The Captains recorded 24 runs on 21 hits in the two games, which were both shortened by the eight-run rule. CNU has now won six of its last seven games.
Saturday, the Spartans of York College will be the opposition. The Spartans are 14-8 overall and 0-2 in conference action. York comes to Newport News following two victories on Thursday at Franklin & Marshall.
Sunday, the Lions of Penn State-Harrisburg come to town. The Lions are presently 10-4 overall and 2-0 in the CAC, and play at Mary Washington on Saturday. Sunday is Senior Day at Captains Park, as the four members of the senior class will be honored prior to first pitch. Pitchers
