A LOOK AT THE CAPTAINS
Prior to Saturday's game, Christopher Newport will honor the achievements of the program's decorated senior class. The veteran group includes All-American
Meaghan Galvin, All-Region honoree
Mariah Ginebra, and All-State selection
Erin Callahan. Meanwhile,
Lindsay Weaver is a three-year starter on the midfield unit,
Meghan O'Reilly is a two-year team captain, and
Katie Gaskin has contributed both on and off the field, earning starts on the defensive unit while also securing the IWLCA Community Awareness Award for her efforts outside of lacrosse.
The fourth-year seniors are also joined by
Bailey Lien, who is a first-year member of the squad after capping off one of the most decorated tenures in the history of the CNU field hockey program last fall.
So far this season, Galvin is tied for the NCAA lead with 77 draw controls and ranks fifth in the nation with 33 assists. Meanwhile, Callahan is fourth on the squad with 24 points, and Ginebra leads the Captains with 17 ground balls. Weaver has also started all 12 games, boasting 12 ground balls and five goals, while Gaskin has eight starts and seven caused turnovers. Rounding out the seniors, O'Reilly, who was sidelined with an injury for most of the year, made her season debut on Wednesday, and Lien has appeared in two contests and surrendered just two goals in 62 minutes of work.
SCOUTING THE BOBCATS
Frostburg State has been led this year by a high-powered attack, which ranks second in the CAC with a 13.82 goals-per-game average. The squad has eclipsed 20 goals on three occasions and dropped 19 on Marymount during a 19-14 triumph last Saturday. On an individual level, Nikki Hallikas ranks 10th in the NCAA with 56 points, and Morgan Cavey is 24th nationally with 45. Hallikas has also been impressive on the draw, ranking second in the league with 59 draw controls.
Along with the squad's leading scorers, Megan Hart is fourth in the league with 15 assists. Meanwhile, on the defensive end, Dylan Teitelbaum is 13th in the country and first in the CAC with 97 saves. She has five double-digit save efforts this season, including 18 against Randolph-Macon last month and 14 against No. 7 York (Pa.) on Wednesday.
