FROSTBURG, Md. -- The Christopher Newport men's lacrosse team will look to continue its winning ways on Saturday at 6 p.m. when the Captains take on Frostburg State in a critical Capital Athletic Conference showdown at Bobcat Stadium.

Riding a seven-game winning streak, CNU enters the weekend with an 8-2 overall record and a 3-0 mark in league action. Meanwhile, Frostburg State sits at 6-4 with a 2-1 ledger in CAC play.

For those fans unable to make it to the contest, FSU will provide live stats and a video stream of the action at FrostburgSports.com. Direct links to both features can be found at the top of this release and on the CNU schedule page.

A LOOK AT THE CAPTAINS

Christopher Newport's seven-game winning streak is currently tied for the longest roll in program history, equaling the seven-game run put together by the 2014 Captains from February 22 - March 26. During the current streak, CNU is out-scoring the opposition by an average of 10 goals per game and has won 70 percent of the faceoffs. Will Geise has been especially impressive during the seven-game surge, posting a team-high 29 goals and 45 points while establishing new program records for career goals, points, and assists.

Overall this season, Geise leads the CAC with 37 goals and ranks second with 53 points. Matthew Crist is also third in the conference with 25 assists and sixth with 42 points. Among other league leaders, Ryan Mills is eighth in the conference with 38 points, and Randy Foster is seventh with 24 goals.

In addition to the offensive standouts, Tony Cruz is second in the conference with a .660 faceoff winning percentage, while Will Cogan and Drew Cornell are both in the top-10 in caused turnovers. Matt Hayden has been equally dominant on the defensive side, compiling a league-best .623 save percentage to go along with a 6.82 goals-against-average.

LAST TIME OUT

On Wednesday, Christopher Newport improved to 3-0 in the league with a 14-9 victory over Mary Washington. During the contest, Geise posted six points, including four assists. His fourth helper marked the 59th of his career, moving him past John Thompson's previous school standard of 58 set from 2012-15.

Along with Geise, Foster added a team-high six goals, which equaled the second-highest single-game total in program history.  Mills also established a new school mark with 14 ground balls, and Cruz was a workhorse at the 'X,' winning 19 of his 26 battles.

SCOUTING THE BOBCATS

Frostburg State enters the weekend receiving votes in the latest USILA National Coaches Poll. The Bobcats have challenged themselves with several nationally-ranked opponents and boast an 11-8 victory over No. 8 Cabrini and a tight 6-5 setback against No. 6 York (Pa.). Additionally, the squad is coming off of a 12-10 loss against Ohio Wesleyan, who is also receiving votes in the USILA poll.

So far this year, the Bobcats have been led by a strong defensive unit, which is allowing just seven goals per game. That ranks 19th in the NCAA. Between the pipes, Jack Marks has a .559 save percentage and a 6.84 goals-against-average. He has been helped on the defensive side by Bradley Jones, who has eight caused turnovers, and Alex Phillips, who has seven.

Offensively, Keegan Colegrove has a team-high 25 points, including 22 goals. Adam Gross has also struck 14 times and is tied with Quinn Western for the team-lead with eight assists. Meanwhile, on faceoffs, Kyle Horak has won 61 percent of his 174 attempts.

SERIES HISTORY

Frostburg State and CNU have met four times with the Bobcats holding a 3-1 edge in the series. However, the Captains won the last battle after upending the 15th-ranked Bobcats, 12-11, in Newport News last year. Foster led the squad with five points, including the game-winning goal with less than two minutes remaining in regulation.

UP NEXT

Following Saturday's bout, Christopher Newport will head to Maryland for a showdown with the top-ranked Salisbury Sea Gulls on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
