PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- Following strong performances at a pair of fall tournaments, the Christopher Newport men's tennis team will kick off dual play on Sunday afternoon in Pittsburgh, as the Captains take on Oberlin College and Carnegie Mellon University. CNU will face Oberlin at Noon on Sunday, followed by a 3:00 pm first serve against the host Tartans of CMU.
The two duals will be the last action of the fall portion of the schedule for CNU, who wrapped up play at the Joe Hunt Invitational and the ITA Southeast Regional Championships in September.
Live stats and live video will be available for the match against Carnegie Mellon, starting at 3:00 pm. Links for the live scoring and video will be available on the tennis schedule at CNUsports.com. The bout will pit a pair of teams that finished in last year's national rankings against eachother, as CNU finished ranked No. 28 and Carnegie Mellon checked in at No. 10 nationally.
Christopher Newport features a talented veteran core that graduated just one starter in singles and doubles from last year's conference championship squad. Seniors
David Reed and
Justin Cerny headline the returning group after combining to win 21 matches in singles and 17 doubles victories last season. The duo played on the top line together in doubles and played Nos. 1 and 2 in singles all season long. Sophomore
Andy Mason, an All-Conference performer in both singles and doubles, is also back into the fold, along with All-CAC selections
William Trang and
Dominic Lacombe.
Following the action on Sunday, full scores and a recap will be available at CNUsports.com.
