NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The eighth-ranked Christopher Newport field hockey team will host a pair of battles this week at Captains Turf Field as CNU squares off with Centre in a non-conference showdown on Friday at 4 p.m. before taking on Frostburg State in a Capital Athletic Conference match-up on Sunday at noon.

Riding a seven-game winning streak, the Captains sit at 11-1 overall, including 3-0 in league play. On the other side, Centre boasts an 8-3 record, including a 5-1 mark on the road. Meanwhile, Frostburg State sits at 3-10 overall and 0-2 in CAC tilts.

Entering the home action, Christopher Newport ranks among the national leaders in nearly every defensive statistic. The Captains lead the NCAA with a 0.50 goals-against-average and an .885 save percentage. The squad also sits second in the nation with eight shutouts. That ranks fifth on the program's all-time single-season charts as well.

On an individual level,
Stephanie McKinney leads the country with a 0.57 goals-against-average, while her .870 save percentage is the third-highest mark in the NCAA. The back line, anchored by
Brittan Muir,
Mackenzie Neylon, and
Alexa Weaver, has also been stingy throughout the year. The Captains have limited the opposition to just 6.4 shots per game and a .078 shooting percentage.

Offensively,
Rachael Allshouse ranks fourth in the conference with eight goals, while
Courtney Fiest has a league-high eight assists. The reigning CAC Offensive Player of the Week has also registered a team-high 18 points this season, which places her fourth in the conference. Additionally, Allshouse ranks seventh in the league with 17 points, and
Madison Doss sits ninth with 15.

Centre comes into Friday's action with a potent offensive attack that ranks 28th in the country with a 3.36 goals-per-game average. The Colonels have dropped at least five goals on five of their opponents, including an 8-2 victory over Hendrix on Sunday. Hayley Barker has been at the forefront of the attack with 12 goals and 27 points. Her 1.09 goals-per-game average places her 17th in the nation. Meanwhile, Brooklyn Bell has also collected 20 points, while Kristen Mulcahy has compiled a 1.27 goals-against-average and a .731 save percentage during her time in the cage.

Frostburg State enters the weekend on a six-game skid after opening the season with three wins in the team's first five contests. The Bobcats have been tested on the defensive end and rank among the national leaders in saves. FSU is averaging 10.15 saves per game, which stands 27th in the nation, while the team's 10 defensive saves are the 26th-most in the NCAA. On an individual level, Savannah Neubert has five defensive saves, while Nicole Leighty has tallied a .765 save percentage and a 2.89 goals-against-average. Offensively, Holly Van Wie leads the way with five goals and 11 points.

In five all-time meetings with Centre, Christopher Newport holds a perfect 5-0 record. Meanwhile, Frostburg State and CNU have battled 15 times with the Captains holding a 14-1 edge in the series.
