DANVILLE, Ky. -- After opening the 2016 campaign with a pair of home victories, the 14th-ranked Christopher Newport field hockey team will take its show on the road as the Captains head to Centre for a pair of games beginning with a 7 p.m. contest against the Colonels on Friday at Joe McDaniel Field.

Along with battling the hosts, Christopher Newport will also take on DePauw on Sunday at 10 a.m. For those fans unable to make it to the games, the Colonels will provide live stats and a video stream of the action at CentreColonels.com. LAST TIME OUT

The Captains opened up 2016 by defeating Goucher, 4-0, on Sunday before upending Oberlin, 7-0, on Monday. During those two contests, Christopher Newport held a 71-1 advantage in shots and a 27-1 lead in penalty corners.
Brittan Muir was eventually honored as the CAC Defensive Player of the Week for helping blanket the opposition, while
Rachel Cooke,
Mackenzie Neylon, and
Sarah Miller also were standouts on the defensive end.

Offensively, CNU benefited from a pair of breakout performances from
Abby Cryts and
Josie Morgan. Cryts registered a pair of goals against Goucher before adding another strike against Oberlin. Meanwhile, Morgan erupted for six points, including two strikes, against the Yeowomen on Monday. Overall, eight different Captains have already scored a goal and 10 have registered at least one point.

SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION

Centre enters Friday's contest with a 2-0 record after downing Kenyon and Wooster by a combined 16-2 score last week. Hayley Barker got off to a fast start in 2016 with 12 points, including five goals. Fellow junior Brooklyn Bell has also scored four times this season, while Kathryn Hardesty has a pair of assists. Defensively, senior Kirby Roberts earned both victories and boasts a 1.33 goals-against-average and a .667 save percentage so far this year.

DePauw comes into the weekend with a 2-1 record after topping Hendrix and Witterberg while falling, 3-2, in overtime against Rhodes. Displaying a well-balanced attack, Reilly Bruce, Paige Berliner, and Tori Wittemann all have three goals this season, while Bruce leads the team with eight total points. Defensively, Sarah Guendert has 16 saves and a 1.93 goals-against-average.

Centre and CNU have met four times with the Captains holding a 4-0 edge in the series. The two programs last met in 2014 when Christopher Newport registered a 2-1 overtime victory.

DePauw and CNU have met twice with both teams notching a victory. They last met in 2014 with the Tigers claiming a 2-1 victory despite nine stops by
Bailey Lien and a defensive save by
Sarah Miller.
