VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- In the midst of a five-game road swing, the 17th-ranked Christopher Newport field hockey team will continue its travels on Tuesday at 5 p.m. when the Captains take on Virginia Wesleyan at Marlins Field.

Entering the non-conference showdown, CNU sits at 6-2 on the season, including 3-1 on the road. Meanwhile, Virginia Wesleyan is 2-4 overall and 1-2 at home.

A LOOK AT THE CAPTAINS

Featuring a well-balanced attack, five Captains have at least three goals this season.
Rachael Allshouse leads the squad with six strikes, while
Josie Morgan and
Abby Cryts have four apiece.
Kana Hashigami and
Madison Doss also have three goals each. Helping facilitate the attack, Morgan,
Riley Keeter, and
Brittan Muir all have three assists.

Bailey Lien has a .759 save percentage and a 1.03 goals-against-average. As a team, Christopher Newport is allowing less than one goal per contest, which ranks among the national leaders.

On Saturday, the Captains kicked off Capital Athletic Conference action with a 2-0 setback at York (Pa.). During the contest, Lien made a season-high eight saves for CNU, but the offense could not crack the Spartan defense. Christopher Newport was out-shot, 18-4, and trailed in corners, 12-5.

SCOUTING THE MARLINS

Virginia Wesleyan has dropped its last two decisions, including a 6-2 setback against Lynchburg on Saturday in its ODAC opener. Six different players have scored VWC's six goals this season, while Asiah Allen leads the team with four points. Defensively, Skye Swain has a .706 save percentage and a 3.03 goals-against-average. Emma Walsh and Caitlyn Hogge have defensive saves as well.

The Captains and Marlins have met 11 times with CNU holding an 8-3 edge in the series. The two programs have not met since 2013 when Christopher Newport tallied a 1-0 victory.
