Live Stats // Video Stream

YORK, Pa. --
The 17th-ranked Christopher Newport field hockey team will kick off Capital Athletic Conference action on Saturday at noon when the Captains battle York (Pa.) in a CAC showdown at Kinsley Field.

The Captains enter the contest with a 6-1 record, including a 3-0 mark on the road. The Spartans sit at 5-2 overall and 2-1 at home.

For those fans unable to make it to the game, York will provide live stats and a video stream of the action at YCPSpartans.com. Direct links to both features can be found at the top of this release and on the CNU schedule page.

A LOOK AT THE CAPTAINS

Christopher Newport has been led by an outstanding defensive unit, which has compiled a 0.71 goals-against-average. That mark currently ranks sixth in the NCAA. Bailey Lien has anchored the squad between the pipes with a .737 save percentage while allowing just five goals all season. Meanwhile, Sarah Miller and Brittan Muir have both been honored as the CAC Defensive Player of the Week this year, and both Mackenzie Neylon and Rachel Cooke rank among the team-leaders in minutes played and have helped anchor the back line.

On the offensive end, Rachael Allshouse has a team-high six goals and 13 points, while Josie Morgan and Abby Cryts have each scored four times apiece. Morgan, Neylon, and Muir are all tied for the team-lead with three assists, while Carol Thompson has a pair of helpers.

LAST TIME OUT

On Monday, CNU toppled No. 19 Catholic, 3-1, in Washington, D.C. After trailing by one entering halftime, the Captains erupted for three unanswered goals after the break. Kana Hashigami contributed three points, while Allshouse and Madison Doss also found the back of the cage. Miller and Riley Keeter added assists, and Lien came through with three saves to earn the victory.

SCOUTING THE SPARTANS

York (Pa.) has dropped its last two decisions after starting the year on a five-game winning streak. Despite the stumble, the Spartans are still receiving votes in the NFHCA National Coaches Poll and boast a 2-0 victory over No. 6 Franklin & Marshall earlier this month.

The Spartans have been led by Lindsay Nye, who ranks among the national leaders in goals with nine. She has scored at least once in each of her last five outings, including a five-goal eruption at Dickson on September 7. Autumn Mallory has also scored five times for York, while Ali Posey has a team-high three assists. On the defensive end, Eve Hauptle has a .694 save percentage and a 1.51 goals-against-average.

SERIES HISTORY

CNU and York have met three times with the Captains holding a 2-1 edge in the series. Christopher Newport won last year's battle, 2-1. The Spartans won the only previous meeting in Pennsylvania, 1-0, in 2014.

UP NEXT

Following Saturday's clash, CNU will continue its road swing on Tuesday with a 5 p.m. match-up at Virginia Wesleyan.
