WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The 14th-ranked Christopher Newport field hockey team will battle 19th-ranked Catholic on Monday at 4 p.m. in a top-20 showdown at Cardinal Stadium.

Looking to bounce back after seeing their five-game winning streak snapped on Saturday, the Captains enter the contest with a 5-1 record. Meanwhile, Catholic sits at 4-1 overall and 2-1 in home contests this year.

A LOOK AT THE CAPTAINS

So far this season, Christopher Newport has out-scored its opposition, 20-4, and boasts three shutouts.
Rachael Allshouse and
Josie Morgan have helped anchor the offensive attack with 11 points apiece. Allshouse leads the squad with five goals, while Morgan is tied with

Mackenzie Neylon for the team-lead with three assists.

Bailey Lien has compiled a 0.84 goals-against-average and a .733 save percentage. Among players at all levels of the NCAA, the senior standout ranks seventh among active goalies with a career 1.01 goals-against-average. Her .810 career save percentage is also tied for 14th among active players in the nation.

On Saturday, the Captains saw their five-game winning streak snapped in a hard-fought 1-0 setback against Bridgewater. During the contest, CNU held a 20-6 edge in shots and a 15-3 lead in penalty corners, but the Eagles capitalized on a first-half goal and held on for the victory. Lien came through with four saves during the game, while Allshouse led the team with seven shots, including five on-goal.

SCOUTING THE CARDINALS

Catholic has won its last two outings after dropping a 2-1 decision to 15th-ranked Rowan last weekend. In their last action, the Cardinals upended Misericordia, 2-1, on Saturday. Molly Crowley drove home the game-winner in the 65th minute, while Sophia Hamilton earned the victory after making three saves during a spotless second half.

Overall this season, Catholic has been led by Rachel Day, who boasts a team-high six goals and 12 points. Crowley has also scored three times, while Morgan Druce and Graceton Griffith have two strikes apiece. On the defensive end, Hamilton and Analisa Scott have split time between the pipes. Hamilton has three victories and an .800 save percentage, while Scott is 1-1 with a .684 save percentage and a 2.00 goals-against-average.

The Captains and Cardinals have met 13 times with CNU holding an 8-5 edge in the series. Last year, Christopher Newport notched a 1-0 victory at Captains Turf Field. Muir scored the only goal in the contest, while Lien notched four saves to earn the win.
