NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Riding a five-game winning streak, the 14th-ranked Christopher Newport field hockey team will look to keep its run going on Saturday at 2 p.m. when CNU hosts Bridgewater in a non-conference battle at Captains Turf Field.

Christopher Newport enters the weekend with a 5-0 record and has registered shutouts in each of its first three home games this year. Meanwhile, Bridgewater sits at 2-3, including a 1-2 mark on the road.

A LOOK AT THE CAPTAINS

So far this season, Christopher Newport has displayed a well-balanced team that ranks among the national leaders on both sides of the ball. The Captains currently sit sixth in the NCAA with a 0.60 goals-against-average, while the attack is 10th with a 4.00 goals-per-game mark. The team also stands among the top-20 in penalty corners, points, scoring margin, and shutouts this year.

Rachael Allshouse sits fourth in the CAC with five goals and fifth with 11 points.
Josie Morgan also boasts 11 points this season, while
Brittan Muir and
Mackenzie Neylon are tied for second in the league with three assists apiece. Overall, 11 different players have collected at least one point, while
Abby Cryts is tied for second on the squad with four goals.

Sarah Miller is the reigning CAC Defensive Player of the Week after registering a pair of defensive saves last weekend. Muir also has a defensive save for CNU, while
Bailey Lien sports a .700 save percentage and 0.80 goals-against-average.

On Wednesday, Christopher Newport upended Randolph-Macon, 4-0, at Captains Turf Field. During the contest, Allshouse drove home a pair of goals, while Morgan and
Madison Doss also found the back of the cage. Defensively, the Captains smothered the Yellow Jackets and allowed just two shots and a penalty corner during their third shutout of the season.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES

Bridgewater is coming off of a 7-2 setback against 16th-ranked Mary Washington on Tuesday. Elizabeth Washington and Madison Clement both scored for Bridgewater, but UMW struck four times off corner attempts to seal the victory. Defensively, Emily Witzke and Ali Bishop split time between the pipes and combined to make 10 stops during the contest.

Overall this season, Washington leads the team with 10 points and four goals. Meanwhile, Clement has a team-high four assists, which places her 21st in the NCAA. Overall, 10 different Eagles have scored at least one goal, and six have struck multiple times. Meanwhile, Bishop has allowed nine goals in 291 minutes of work while compiling a 2.16 goals-against-average and a .769 save percentage. She also notched a shutout on Sunday against St. Mary's (Md.).

Christopher Newport and Bridgewater have met 14 times with CNU holding a 13-1 edge in the series. The Captains have won 13 consecutive battles since the inaugural showdown in 2000. Last year, CNU notched a 6-1 victory at Bridgewater.
