SALISBURY, MD- The regular season is history, now it's tournament time for the Captains of Christopher Newport. The 2016 Capital Athletic Conference Softball Tournament begins Thursday at Sea Gull Stadium, and the second-seeded Captains will take on third-seeded Frostburg State in the opening round. First pitch is set for 12:00 p.m.
Keith Parr's squad is ranked eighth in the nation this week and is 32-5 on the season. The Captains finished 12-2 in CAC play...second only to host Salisbury's 13-1 conference mark.
Five of the eight softball members of the CAC qualify for the double-elimination tournament. Fourth-seeded York College takes on fifth-seeded Mary Washington in the first game of the day on Thursday beginning at 10:00 a.m.
The Captains, who have won the last two CAC Tournaments which were played at Captains Park, split their two games this season with Frostburg State. The Bobcats enter play on Thursday with a mark of 24-12 and FSU was 9-5 in league play this season.
The tournament will continue in Salisbury through Saturday when the CAC Champion will be crowned. The Captains are looking to advance to the NCAA Tournament for the tenth straight season, and have won at least 30 games in each of the last ten years.
