Softball Hosts Wesley for Senior Day Saturday in CAC Regular-Season Finale

NEWPORT NEWS, Va.- Saturday marks the end of the regular season for the Christopher Newport University softball team. The Captains, ranked ninth in the nation this week, host the Wolverines of Wesley College in a Capital Athletic Conference doubleheader. The first pitch of game one is set for 3:00 p.m. at Captains Park. Prior to the start of the twin bill, seven CNU senior student-athletes will be honored during Senior Day ceremonies.

The Captains are 30-5 overall and 10-2 in CAC action this season. CNU is presently in second place in the conference standings, one game behind Salisbury (9-1) in the loss column. The Sea Gulls have two doubleheaders this weekend, hosting Mary Washington on Saturday and travelling to Frostburg State on Sunday.

The Wolverines of Wesley College enter Saturday's contests with a 12-14 overall record, and a 5-7 mark in the CAC.

The Capital Athletic Conference tournament begins next Thursday, April 21st, and continues through Saturday, April 23rd. The tournament will be hosted by the top seed and the winner will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship. CNU has hosted and won the tournament the last two seasons since joining the CAC.

Christopher Newport is coming off two 8-0 victories at Mary Washington on Wednesday. The triumphs pushed the Captains win total to 30, marking the tenth straight season CNU has recorded 30 or more victories. The Captains finished 30-9 last year, and advanced to the NCAA's Super Regional round.
