CNU Softball Travels to Fredericksburg for Wednesday Doubleheader at Mary Washington

NEWPORT NEWS, Va.- Three doubleheaders in the next four days...that's all that's left in the regular season for the Christopher Newport University softball team. The Captains, ranked eighth in the nation, begin the final stretch Wednesday afternoon with a Capital Athletic Conference doubleheader at Mary Washington, the final road games of the regular season for CNU. First pitch in Fredericksburg is set for 2:30 p.m.

Keith Parr's team is presently 28-5 overall and 8-2 in the CAC. The Captains are tied for second place in the conference standings with Frostburg State, a game in the loss column behind league-leading Salisbury. CNU is coming off a split on Sunday with the Bobcats of Frostburg State at Captains Park.

Mary Washington heads into play on Wednesday with an overall record of just 11-23, but the Eagles are 6-4 in the CAC, including a victory over Frostburg State last Saturday in Fredericksburg.

Play in the CAC through the weekend will determine seeding for the 2016 post-season conference tournament, which takes place next week beginning Thursday, April 21st, and continuing through Saturday, April 23rd. The top-seeded school will host the three-day post-season tournament, which the Captains have hosted and won each of the last two years since joining the CAC.

The Captains can reach the 30-win plateau for the tenth straight season with a pair of victories on Wednesday. CNU was 30-9 last year.

Christopher Newport will follow Wednesday's action with a make-up non-conference doubleheader Thursday at 4:00 p.m. at Captains Park against Bridgewater, and then conclude the regular season Saturday with a CAC doubleheader against Wesley. Saturday's Senior Day twin bill will get started at 3:00 p.m.
