MIDDLETOWN, Pa. -- The 33rd-ranked Christopher Newport women's tennis team swept a pair of Capital Athletic Conference matchups in Pennsylvania on Sunday, dropping the York College of Pennsylvania Spartans, 5-0, and the Penn State Harrisburg Lions, 9-0.  The Captains (13-6, 6-1) clinched the #2 seed in next week's CAC Tournament, and earned a first-round bye with the victories.

The Sunday morning matchup with the Spartans (7-4, 2-4) was played to decision, as the Captains swept doubles and quickly cruised through a pair of singles wins. CNU dropped just three games in doubles and one in head-to-head action, with Claire Dockrill and Emily Morgan each picking up a pair of team points for CNU.

To get things started in tandem play, McKinney Harwood and Katie Carlson won, 8-0, over Katie Wagner and Darian Naill on the top line. At No. 2 doubles, Morgan and partner Alexandra Drye captured an 8-1 victory over Rachel Wagner and Jessica Sherman; and in No. 3 doubles, Dockrill paired with Isabelle Wessel to down Mckenzie Krout and Megan Jones, 8-2.

In singles play, four Captains got out to quick leads, but the match was halted after wins at No. 2 and No. 6 for the Captains. Morgan played at No. 6 for CNU, sweeping Jessica Sherman for a 6-0, 6-0 victory. The final win came at No. 2 for Dockrill, as she defeated Wagner by a final score of 6-0, 6-1.

In the second match of the day, the Captains' dominance continued as the visitors surrendered just two games in the entire match, including a flawless performance in doubles with three straight 8-0 victories. Morgan continued her stellar performance, winning both of her matches again, while the rest of the Captains also surged through a dominating 9-0 win.

In doubles, Harwood and Carlson started the run with an 8-0 win on the top line, taking down Nandita Munindra and Jessica Miller. Morgan and Drye improved to 14-4 at No. 2 doubles with an 8-0 win over Sarah Shahriar and Skyler Buschinski. Finally, Kate Huck and Wessel defeated Fay Ansary and Minwha Lee at No. 3 doubles.

Dockrill played her first career match at No. 1 singles and cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win over Munindra, adding to her team lead in wins with 14. The Captains won three more matches by flawless 6-0, 6-0 scores, at Nos. 3-5 behind strong efforts by Meili Konell, Wessell and Morgan. Kristi Wong made her second dual appearance of the spring at No. 6, downing Carter in a pro-set by a score of 8-1.

The Captains have one non-conference match remaining on the regular season schedule, hosting No. 13 Washington & Lee on Monday, April 18, in a final tuneup before the postseason. CNU will then host a CAC Semifinal matchup on Tuesday, April 19.
