Complete Box ScoreMIDDLETOWN, Pa. -- With a pair of wins in Capital Athletic Conference action on Sunday, the 20th-ranked Christopher Newport men's tennis team clinched the No. 2 seed in the upcoming CAC Tournament. The Captains defeated York College of Pennsylvania, 5-0, and Penn State Harrisburg, 9-0, improving to 12-6 this season with a 6-1 record against the league.
The first match was played to decision, with Christopher Newport sweeping doubles action and winning at the top two lines of singles. Sophomore

Steven Boslet each picked up a pair of team points with wins in singles and doubles.

Chiraag Shetty kicked things off with a clean 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles, dropping Zach Hanson and Rory Handlin. Cerny paired with
Sam Thomson for an 8-5 win against Sam Innerst and C.J. Weigle at No. 2, while
Arttu Fiva and
Michael Dodd added another perfect 8-0 win over Devin Lehigh and Joel Hess at No. 3.
In singles action, Cerny was tested in both sets, but took down Innerst at No. 1 singles for a 6-4, 6-4 win. Boslet wrapped up the team victory with a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 2, besting Lehigh.
The afternoon match would be played through all nine team points against the Lions, and CNU did not surrender a game in six of the nine matchups. Director of Tennis
Eric Christiansen mixed up the lineup, but little changed on the courts as the Captains raced to a 9-0 win.
In doubles, CNU picked up 8-0 wins at Nos. 1 and 3, as Cerny and Dodd matched up on the top line to defeat Tyler Cook and James Moore. The other 8-0 win came at No. 3, where rookie
Alex Johnson and sophomore
Dillon Sykes paired to defeated Ethan Finger and Thomas Lichtenwalner. The win was Johnson's first career doubles appearance and win, and the first of the spring for Sykes.
At No. 2 doubles, the Penn State Harrisburg tandem of Rafael Fernandes and Austin Pokopec picked up three games, but Thomson and Fiva pulled away for an 8-3 win.
Johnson also made his first career singles appearance in duals action, earning a straight set 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 over J.J. Parola. Shetty improved to 2-0 at No. 1 singles this season with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Fernandes, while Fiva added his second win at No. 2, improving to 18-7 this season after a 6-1, 6-2 win over Cook.
The Captains will head to New Jersey to close out the regular season against a pair of nationally-ranked opponents, taking on No. 23 Stevens and No. 38 TCNJ next weekend. CNU will face the Ducks on Saturday, April 16 at Noon, followed by a Noon match on Sunday, April 17 against the Lions. Following those two matchups, the Captains will host a CAC Semifinal matchup on April 20.
