NEWPORT NEWS, Va.- Christopher Newport returns to Capital Athletic Conference play this weekend, as the fourth-ranked CNU softball squad hits the road for two doubleheaders in Pennsylvania. The Captains, 19-4 overall and 1-1 in the CAC, will play at York College Saturday, and then travel to Penn State-Harrisburg on Sunday. Both CAC doubleheaders will begin at 1:00 p.m. in the Keystone state.
Keith Parr's squad is coming off two home losses on Wednesday night to eighth-ranked Virginia Wesleyan by scores of 5-4 and 4-2. All four of CNU's defeats this year have come to Top 10 programs (top-ranked Texas-Tyler and ninth-ranked Salisbury have also knocked off the Captains).
York College is off to a great start this season, and the Spartans currently top the league standings with Frostburg State at 2-0. York is 17-5 overall heading into Saturday's twin bill with the Captains.
Penn State-Harrisburg is 0-2 in league play and 7-8 overall, and the Lions will host Mary Washington for two on Saturday before playing CNU on Sunday.
Christopher Newport will return home following the weekend action, and the Captains will host Meredith in non-conference play next Wednesday at Captains Park. The doubleheader is set to start at 4:00 p.m. CNU will then host CAC rivals Southern Virginia and Frostburg State next weekend.
