A LOOK AT THE CAPTAINS

Dominating possession during its first three contests, Christopher Newport currently leads the Capital Athletic Conference in draw controls-per-game with a 13.67 average. On an individual level, three Captains rank among the league's top-10 in draw controls. Meaghan Galvin is second in the conference with 18, while Catie Chess is sixth with nine. Sarah Culver rounds out the top-ranked performers as she is tied for ninth with eight.

Among other league leaders, Chess is fourth in the CAC with 10 goals, while Galvin is sixth with 13 points. Galvin's four free-position strikes also lead the league. Overall, she has 31 free-position goals in her career, which is just two away from tying the program's all-time record held by Meghan Harkey and Ashton Marshall.

On the defensive end, Emma Walsh ranks second in the league with 34 saves, while her .548 save percentage is the third finest among CAC performers. Meanwhile, Mariah Ginebra boasts a team-high six caused turnovers.

LAST TIME OUT

On Thursday, Christopher Newport upended No. 10 Catholic, 9-8, at Captains Turf Field. The victory marked the program's first against a ranked opponent since the 2013 campaign. Showing off an impressive youth movement, eight of the team's 11 points in the game were recorded by first- or second-year competitors. Culver scored four goals, while fellow freshmen Maria Gianelle and Julia Golden added one point apiece. Sophomore Catie Chess also scored twice for the Captains.

Defensively, Walsh pieced together an electric performance with 14 saves. Ginebra also clamped down on the Cardinal attack with four caused turnovers. Galvin notched a game-high seven draw controls as well.

SCOUTING THE DUTCHMEN

Making the squad's first road trip of the year, Lebanon Valley comes to Newport News on a two-game roll after defeating Shenandoah and Scranton over the last seven days. The squad's only setback of the year came against eighth-ranked York (Pa.) in the season opener on February 20.

In their last outing against Scranton, the Dutchmen were led by Sam Boyce, who recorded six points. Emma Jones and Makenzie Kelley also scored four times for Lebanon Valley, while Shelby Morris made 11 saves on the back end. Overall this season, Boyce leads the team with 12 points, while Jones and Tori Kuntz have eight apiece. Morris has anchored the defense with a .525 save percentage and a 9.67 goals-against-average.
