Fourth-Ranked CNU Softball Hosts Virginia Wesleyan Under the Lights Wednesday Night

NEWPORT NEWS, Va.- Two Top 10 programs will battle under the lights Wednesday night at Captains Park, as the fourth-ranked Captains of Christopher Newport take on the eighth-ranked Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan. The non-conference softball doubleheader will begin at 5:00 p.m.

CNU is 19-2 so far this season, and the Captains are 11-1 at home. Virginia Wesleyan enters play with a record of 17-4.

Keith Parr's squad is coming off a home sweep of Eastern Mennonite on Monday. The Captains posted victories by scores of 10-4 and 6-2 over the Royals, and have now won three straight games.

The Marlins have won their last six games, most recently sweeping two from Lynchburg on Saturday in Virginia Beach.

The series between CNU and Virginia Wesleyan began in 1985, the very first season of Captains softball. The schools have met 72 times on the softball playing field, with the Marlins holding a 38-34 series lead. The teams split their doubleheader last year at VWC.

Christopher Newport is 1-1 in Capital Athletic Conference play, and the Captains return to league action in Pennsylvania this weekend with doubleheaders at York on Saturday and at Penn State-Harrisburg on Sunday.
