A LOOK AT THE CAPTAINS

On Monday, Christopher Newport entered the IWLCA National Coaches Poll for the first time since the 2014 preseason rankings. The Captains eventually earned 41 points in the poll, which placed them 19th in the nation. This year's team is only the third in program history to crack the top-20, joining the 2013 and 2014 squads.

Through eight games, CNU ranks among the national leaders in several statistical categories. The squad is converting 58 percent of its free-position shots, which stands ninth in the NCAA. The team also ranks 10th with a .570 save percentage and 17th with a 15.00 goals-per-game average. Meanwhile, Christopher Newport is also out-scoring its opposition by an average of 7.75 goals-per-contest, which rates as the 17th-highest average in the nation.

On an individual level, Meaghan Galvin is fourth in the country in free-position percentage with a .900 mark. She is also fifth in the NCAA with 57 draw controls and 19th with 18 assists. Equally stout on the defensive side of the ball, freshman Emma Walsh ranks 11th in the country and first in the CAC with a .581 save percentage. Mariah Ginebra is also sixth in the league with 14 caused turnovers and 10th with 20 ground balls.

LAST TIME OUT

Last Saturday, CNU defeated St. Mary's (Md.), 11-5, in a key CAC showdown. Both teams are currently ranked in the IWLCA National Poll. Against the Seahawks, Galvin and Sarah Culver registered hat-tricks, while Lindsay Weaver added a pair of goals. Overall, seven different Captains notched at least one point during the victory.

On the defensive end, Walsh tallied 10 saves and collected four ground balls. Catie Chess also scooped up four ground balls, while Galvin recorded a pair of caused turnovers.

SCOUTING THE BOBCATS

Frostburg State has won three of its last four outings, including a 16-13 triumph over Arcadia on Wednesday. During that contest, five Bobcats posted multiple goals, including a team-high four by Logan Brady. The junior also contributed seven draw controls, two ground balls, and a pair of caused turnovers. Dylan Teitelbaum collected 15 saves to earn the victory as well.

Overall this season, Megan Hart leads FSU with 21 points, including 15 goals. Morgan Cavey also has 14 tallies, while Brady and Molly Hart have scored 13 times apiece. Teitelbaum boasts a .516 save percentage and an 11.73 goals-against-average during her 471 minutes between the pipes.
