CNU Men's Tennis Moves Into Top 30 Nationally; Hosts Frostburg State, Southern Virginia Saturday

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- In the latest edition of the Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III Men's Tennis rankings, the Christopher Newport University men's team moved up three slots to No. 29 nationally, joining the Top 30. The Captains will host Frostburg State University and Southern Virginia University in Capital Athletic Conference action on Saturday, March 19, with match times set for Noon and 3:00 pm. 

Director of Tennis Eric Christiansen has guided the Captains into the Top 30 for the first time since March 15, 2012, when they were listed at No. 30 in the country. CNU is 5-5 overall this season with three wins over a nationally-ranked opponent. 

CNU sophomore Justin Cerny, named CAC Player of the Week once this season, has led the way for Christopher Newport with a 7-3 singles record at the No. 2 position. He has one win over a nationally-ranked opponent and has also paired with David Reed to go 7-2 in doubles action at No. 2. Junior Arttu Fiva has a similar 7-3 record in singles action, playing at No. 5 and 6 this season. 

The Captains will face the Bobcats (1-5, 0-1) at Noon and the Knights (4-5, 0-2) as they open conference play. Full scores and a recap will be available at CNUsports.com following the action.
