A LOOK AT THE CAPTAINS
Â
Christopher Newport has continued to feature a sensational defensive unit, which has held its opposition in-check throughout the 2016 campaign. Despite facing a rigorous schedule, which has included four teams currently ranked in the top-12 nationally in goals-per-game, the Captains have remained vigilant on the defensive side. The squad currently sits fourth in the NCAA with a 0.74 goals-against-average, while the team's .848 save percentage is seventh in the country.
Â
On an individual level,
Bailey Lien has anchored the team between the pipes. The senior goalie ranks in the top-15 nationally in both goals-against-average and save percentage. Meanwhile,
Sarah Miller is also tied for 19th in the country with six defensive saves.
Â
Offensively,
Rachael Allshouse has 14 goals, which is tied for the eighth-highest single-season total in program history.
Josie Morgan also ranks second on the squad with 15 points, including a team-high five assists, while
Madison Doss and
Abby Cryts have five goals apiece as well. Overall, 12 different Captains have found the back of the cage at least once, while nine have at least two strikes.
Â
LAST TIME OUT
Â
On Wednesday, Christopher Newport traveled to Salisbury, Maryland for a match-up with the second-ranked Sea Gulls.
Rachel Cooke scored a second-half goal to tie the game at one, and Lien came through with 10 saves, but Salisbury survived in overtime, 2-1.
Brittan Muir also added her third defensive save of the year during the game.
Â
SCOUTING THE BOBCATS
Â
Frostburg State enters Sunday on a nine-game skid after ripping off four straight victories late in September. Despite the recent stumble, the Bobcats have held strong against top-flight competition, including a slim 2-0 setback against No. 2 Salisbury last week. Overall this season, Jacqueline Gover has paced the FSU defense and ranks second in the CAC with 61 saves. She also sits among the league-leaders with a .685 save percentage and a 1.99 goals-against-average.
Â
Offensively, Lindsay Gardiner has a team-high 12 points and five goals, while Taylor Brown ranks second with 10 points. Jacquelyn Nava, Erin Barker, and Cara Morrell are tied for the team-lead with three assists apiece.
Â
SERIES HISTORY
Â

Â
UP NEXT
