A LOOK AT THE CAPTAINS

Through four games, Christopher Newport is averaging 5.75 goals-per-game, which ranks fourth nationally. Overall, the Captains have outscored the opposition, 23-5, and their average margin of victory ranks sixth in the NCAA this year.

On an individual level, Lauren Cheatham has a team-high 11 points, including four goals. Sophomore Carol Thompson has also scored five times this year, while Alexa Weaver has three goals and two assists. Lisa Murphy has helped balance out the attack as well with a team-best three assists.

On the defensive end, Bailey Lien has started all four games in the cage while compiling a 1.83 goals-against-average. Meanwhile, Brittan Muir has helped anchor the back line, starting all four games while adding a defensive save.

LAST TIME OUT

Last Saturday, the Captains opened up Capital Athletic Conference action with a 5-1 victory at Wesley. During the game, Cheatham and Weaver both tallied a goal and an assist, while Cori Black, Samantha Snider, and Rachael Allshouse all found the back of the cage as well. Defensively, Lien earned the victory after making a pair of saves.

SCOUTING THE GENERALS

Washington & Lee won back-to-back contests against Wittenberg and Washington College before dropping a 2-0 decision to McDaniel in the squad's last outing on September 13. The Generals, who have yet to play a home game this season, have been led by sophomore goalie Jacqueline Llewellyn. During her time between the pipes, she has a 1.25 goals-against-average and an .833 save percentage.

On the offensive end, Washington & Lee has received a pair of goals from Haley Tucker, while Noelani Schulmeyer has three points. Maggie Waxter also drove home the game-winner against Wittenberg on September 5.

SERIES HISTORY

The Captains and Generals have battled 10 times with CNU holding a 9-1 lead in the all-time series. The two squads last faced off on September 14, 2013 with Christopher Newport securing a 3-1 victory at Captains Turf Field. Both teams have seen significant turnover since then, however, as CNU has only four starters returning from that game, while Washington & Lee welcomes back a pair.

UP NEXT

Following Saturday's tilt, Christopher Newport will hit the road for an 8 p.m. battle at Randolph-Macon on September 23.
