CNU Women’s Lacrosse Heads to Lynchburg for a Non-Conference Battle on Saturday at 3 p.m.

LYNCHBURG, Va. --
Coming off back-to-back victories over league foes, the Christopher Newport women's lacrosse team will wrap up its non-conference slate on Saturday when the Captains head to Lynchburg for a 3 p.m. battle at Shellenberger Field.

On a two-game roll, CNU enters the match-up with a 6-5 record. Lynchburg sits at 6-4 overall and has won each of its last three contests. Saturday's bout marks the 15th all-time meeting between the Captains and Hornets. Christopher Newport currently holds an 8-6 lead in the series, including a 13-11 triumph last season.

The Captains are coming off of a 15-12 victory over Mary Washington on Wednesday in Newport News. During the game, Erin Callahan and Meaghan Galvin both scored five times, while Catie Chess added her sixth hat-trick of the season. Equally effective on the defensive end, Kirsten Mendelsohn forced three turnovers against the Eagles, and Hanna Slough made six saves to earn the victory.

So far this season, Christopher Newport ranks 18th nationally and first in the CAC with 210 points. The squad is also averaging 13.55 goals-per-game, which sits in the top-50 in the NCAA. On an individual level, Galvin is second in the league with 44 points and fourth with 29 goals. Kylie Chaplin also ranks among the top-five with 36 points and 17 assists.

Defensively, Slough stands 50th in the country with 79 saves. She also ranks third in the Capital with a .425 save percentage. Mendelsohn and Mariah Ginebra are tied for seventh in the conference with 14 caused turnovers, while freshman Tess D'Arcy boasts 12 as well.

Lynchburg enters the weekend following a 24-0 victory over Hollins on Wednesday. During that contest, four Hornets tallied hat-tricks, and Caroline Carozza posted a team-high five points. Overall this season, Carozza leads the team with 50 points, 29 goals, and 21 assists. On the defensive end, Hailey Bossert ranks in the top-25 nationally with 94 saves and a .519 save percentage. As a team, Lynchburg is allowing only 8.70 goals-per-contest.

Following Saturday's action, Christopher Newport will return to the field on Tuesday at 5 p.m. for a CAC showdown at No. 6 Salisbury.
