NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Christopher Newport women's lacrosse team will open up the postseason at home on Tuesday when CNU welcomes Mary Washington to town for a 4 p.m. battle in the opening round of the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament at Captains Turf Field.
CNU enters the playoffs as the league's No. 4 seed after wrapping up the regular season with a 9-7 record, including a 5-3 mark in conference action. Mary Washington secured the No. 5 seed with a 9-7 overall record and a 4-4 mark against CAC foes.
Tuesday's match-up stands as the 13th all-time meeting between the two programs. The Eagles were undefeated in the series until Christopher Newport upended UMW, 15-12, on April 1.
Erin Callahan and
Meaghan Galvin both scored five times during this year's match-up, while
Hanna Slough made six saves to earn the victory.

The Captains enter the postseason having won five of their last seven games, including three straight at home. Overall, Christopher Newport has a 6-2 record at Captains Turf Field this year, including the victory over Mary Washington earlier this month.
So far this season, CNU boasts two of the league's top-five goal-scorers as Galvin sits second in the conference with 43 and
Catie Chess leads all freshmen and ranks fifth overall with 40. Against league foes, the duo has been even more lethal as Galvin leads all players with 22 goals in CAC action, while Chess is third with 20.
Along with the team's top-two scorers, Callahan stands third on the team with 30 goals, including 15 in the month of April.
Carly Wilson has pieced together an impressive run as well with three straight multi-goal efforts, including four against Southern Virginia last Wednesday. Equally effective,
Kylie Chaplin has been consistent throughout the year with 25 goals and 22 assists.
On the defensive end, Slough has tallied a .431 save percentage and a 10.49 goals-against-average.
Mariah Ginebra leads the team with 18 caused turnovers and 32 ground balls.
Kirsten Mendelsohn has also forced 17 turnovers, while
Tess D'Arcy has 15.
Lindsay Weaver and
Caitlin Osbourne are in double-figures as well.
Mary Washington enters the playoffs having won three straight, including an 18-10 victory at Marymount on Saturday. Corinne Wiederkehr has been the Eagles' top offensive threat with 42 goals this year, including a pair against the Captains. Mo Sunderland also notched five goals against CNU in their regular season showdown. On the defensive end, Taylor Paige has compiled a .385 save percentage and a 10.95 goals-against-average. Wiederkehr and Maiah Bartlett have both forced 19 turnovers as well.
