CNU Women’s Lacrosse to Host Frostburg State on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Live Stats / Video Stream

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. --
The Christopher Newport women's lacrosse team will return home on Saturday afternoon when CNU hosts Frostburg State in a Capital Athletic Conference battle at 1 p.m. at Captains Turf Field.

The Captains enter the game with a 4-5 record, including a 1-1 mark in league action. Frostburg State comes into play at 7-3, including 1-1 in the CAC.

Saturday's game will mark the sixth all-time meeting between the Captains and Bobcats. FSU currently holds a 3-2 edge in the series, but Christopher Newport posted a 10-9 overtime victory against Frostburg State last year in Maryland.

For those fans unable to make it out to Captains Turf Field this weekend, live stats and a video stream will be available at CNUsports.com. Direct links to both features can be found at the top of this release and on the CNU schedule page.

Christopher Newport enters the game following a high-scoring 18-14 setback at St. Mary's last Saturday. During the contest, Meaghan Galvin led the team with three goals and an assist, while Kylie Chaplin and Catie Chess each contributed hat-tricks as well. Rounding out the top scorers, Carly Wilson added three points, while Erin Callahan had a goal and an assist.

Amplified by the team's performance against the Seahawks, the Captains have shown off a well-balanced attack all season. Through nine games, CNU already boasts six players with double-digit goal totals. Last year, in 18 contests, the team had only five players score at least 10 goals. Incredibly, of the six Captains to reach that mark this season, five are in their first or second year of collegiate lacrosse, including freshmen Chess, Wilson, and Colleen Bourgal.

As a team, the Captains rank 12th in the nation with 173 total points this year. Individually, Chaplin is 41st in the NCAA with 14 assists, while Hanna Slough has led the way defensively and ranks 49th nationally with 61 saves.

Frostburg State comes into the weekend having won seven of the team's last eight games, including a 22-5 triumph over Saint Vincent on Wednesday. During that contest, 12 Bobcats registered at least one goal, including four by Malory Brunett. FSU also caused 20 turnovers, while Dylan Teitelbaum made four saves to earn the victory.

Overall this season, Frostburg State ranks seventh in the NCAA with 103 caused turnovers. Brunett has forced 25 by herself. She also leads the team and ranks 31st in the country with 31 goals. Teitelbaum has paced the team between the pipes with an 8.60 goals-against-average and a .430 save percentage.

Following Saturday's contest, Christopher Newport will remain at home for a 4 p.m. battle with Mary Washington on April 1.
