NEWPORT NEWS, Va.- The Christopher Newport softball team has a pair of non-conference doubleheaders coming up on the road this weekend, but due to bad weather they've had to change their plans a bit.
Keith Parr's squad, 7-4 so far this season and ranked tied for 22nd in the nation, will still play Shenandoah Saturday, but due to poor weather in Winchester, the games will be played at Bridgewater College. The first pitch is set for 3:00 p.m. The Hornets are 3-7 this year so far and are coming off a split on Thursday with Gettysburg in Winchester.
CNU will take on another ODAC opponent on Sunday as the Captains travel to Harrisonburg to play Eastern Mennonite. The twin bill is slated for a 1:30 p.m. start. Eastern Mennonite is 5-1 going into the weekend, and has a doubleheader scheduled at Roanoke on Saturday before tangling with the Captains on Sunday.
The Captains have won their last three games and have come to life offensively. CNUÂ
posted some big numbers Wednesday as the Captains swept Meredith College by scores of 10-4 and 9-2. CNU posted 19 runs on 17 hits in the sweep, and blew both games open thanks to five-run innings.
Christopher Newport has scored 30 runs in the last three games, winning the games by scores of 11-2, 10-4, and 9-2.
